Support and Guidance for the new Politics A-level (first teaching from September 2017)

The new politics A level is making both teaching and learning the subject more challenging than ever before – but have no fear…PEPED Political Investigations will be here to support you.

Throughout the coming year new resources and advice will be uploaded to guide you through the new specifications and expectations, regardless of your examination board, and will include the following:

UK Government

A comprehensive introduction to the constitution and institutions of government in the UK, focusing on their role, powers and relationships with other actors within government and individual citizens. Topics will include; the Constitution, Parliament, Prime Minister & Cabinet and the Judiciary.

UK Politics

A thorough examination of how groups and individuals participate in political processes focusing on key political concepts and the processes which help embed these into our political society. Topics will include; Democracy & Participation, Political Parties, Electoral Systems, Voting Behaviour & The Media, and Pressure Groups.

US Government

A comprehensive introduction to the constitution and institutions of government in the USA, focusing on their role, powers and relationships with other actors within government and individual citizens. Topics will include; the Constitution, Federalism, Congress, the Presidency, the Supreme Court and Rights & Liberties.

US Politics

A thorough examination of how groups and individuals participate in political processes focusing on key political concepts and the processes which help embed these into the American political consciousness. Topics will include; Democracy & Participation, Political Parties, Elections, Voting Behaviour & The Media, and Pressure Groups.

Comparative Politics

An examination of the rational, cultural and structural comparative approaches using clear and detailed comparisons between the UK and US systems. This topic will help you to apply the different approaches when explaining the similarities and differences between the two political systems.

Political Ideas

A new compulsory element in the new A-level, this topic will introduce you to the “core” political ideas that all students should study (liberalism, conservatism and socialism), in addition to featuring some guidance on the optional ideologies including anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism and nationalism.

Global Politics

An introduction to global politics which provides you with an opportunity to develop an understanding of the local,
national, international and global dimensions of political activity. Topics will include: the State and Globalisation, Political & Economic Global Governance, Human Rights and Environmental Global Governance, Power and Development, Regionalism and the European Union.
