Expectations for folders
Classwork
- All work in folders (note taking, essays, power points, hand-outs and worksheets) will be dated and identify whether it is classwork (CWK) or homework (HWK) in the margins.
- All work will have a clear title, topic and focus for each lesson, piece of work or note taking.
- All note taking will be clearly referenced identifying the book/article, author, date and pages (as appropriate).
- If photocopies of books or articles are used for highlighting and annotating, these too must be clearly referenced.
- Classwork and note taking will not be marked, unless otherwise indicated by the class teacher.
Assessments
- All assessments, essays and exam question will be identified as being completed in class (CWK) or at home (HWK) in addition as to whether they were sat in exam conditions (EC).
- All assessments will be dated and have a clear title, question or task.
- All assessments will be marked in detail with specific teacher feedback.
Organisation
- All folders should be organised using dividers.
- There should be no polypockets, and students should hole punch all notes and hand-outs.
- The whole school literacy marking code should be visible on the inside cover of the folder, along with subject specific expectations for marking.
- An overview of the subject/unit should also be visible on the inside cover of the folder, identifying the teacher and target grade of the student.
Folder Checks
- Teachers will perform a folder check, once a term, using a range of criteria to assess the organisation, completeness and accuracy of note taking.
- Students will complete a self or peer assessment of their folder and complete the appropriate pro-forma and submit this along with their folder to their subject teacher.
- Students who do not complete the folder check to the teacher’s satisfaction must re-submit their folder and be subject to monitoring at the teacher’s discretion.
