Compatibilism as a view that freedom and determinism can be reconciled has a long history dating back to Thimas Hobbes (leviathan) through to Hume's Treatise and Enquiry, and in recent history, PF Strawson's analysis of moral responsibility and feelings of resentment and guilt. A good A grade canddiate, having clarified Hume's argument for compatibilism, might like to contrast Strawson's.
