Final thoughts – important!

Here are some final thoughts with a few days to go…

1. I would make sure you have revision summaries, and then, taking these and your own notes, produce your own summary sheets.  Pepare what you think and why eg about abortion, euthanasia (AS) or environment and sexual ethics (A2).

2. I would have all the key terms learnt – if not by heart, at least well enough not to muddle them up. The glossary on this site (see toolbar at top) is the best glossary to use – other glossaries are sometimes vague or wrong (eg one or two of Bowie’s).

3. Go back over the first paragraphs I’ve written and adopt the technique I suggest there. Click here for AS and here for A2.

4. Learn some quotes. Go to my Theory Megagrid click here (today Sunday I’ve redone it as version 1 wasn’t very easy to use – sorry!) and click on the shaded words in the last column which hyperlink around cyberspace for you. A few quotes will come up. Learn one or two.

5. Be flexible when you’re in the exam room. Don’t be afraid of announcing how you will answer the question. Some questions must be shrunk down to manageable proportions – you get credit for this. It shows an ability to analyse.  Past questions are on this site eg Kant’s are here.

6. Print out the strengths and weaknesses tables in each theory section of this site (Topics/ Kant etc). Learn them!

7. With applied ethics work out what you think before you get into the exam and spell out the reasons for your conclusion.

8. Do some quick comparison tables now – deontological/teleological, Kant v Situation Ethics, the three forms of Christian ethics (Divine Command, Natural law, Situation Ethics), absolutism v relativism and if A2 contrast character ethics with deontological and teleological.

9. For A2 the questions on conscience, free will and determinism and meta-ethics are really quite predictable. Write your own. All answers need to follow the same ground as covered in my whiz thru powerpoints click here for menu.

10. Finally, minimise the risk on the day. Sleep well, eat properly, have a spare pen, have enough paper on your desk, take in some water, put your hand up if something is distracting you.

IF YOU HAVEN’T PRINTED OUT THE SYLLABUS DO SO NOW!!  Click here for As and here for A2…..

Take control of your destiny and good luck!
